Our winter wonderland weekend

What a fun time our family had skiing last weekend. It was strange to leave Friday and the weather here was relatively mild, then drive only 2 or so hours and there was so much snow covering the ground! The boys thought it was the coolest ever!
We drove Friday morning to Gommy's house in Greensboro to leave Noah with her. We felt like Noah would have much more fun at Gommy's playing than being strapped in the Baby Bjorn all day while the older boys were skiing! (Noah told us that he did enjoy staying with Gommy!) So, although we missed him so much, we knew it was the better thing to do.
Friday afternoon we headed straight to the slopes at Appalachian Ski Mountain. The boys had so much fun last year at Massanutten Resort in Virginia and we were so looking forward to a repeat of that! And they had a blast! We could not have asked for better weather Friday in Boone. Perfect! And, once the boys got the "hang of it" again, skiing was great. Bryson fell a few times, but got right back up and continued on. Cameron wanted to snowboard again this year, but we just ran out of time. It was a long day and by dusk, we were ready to crash!

After skiing we had a short drive up the very curvy mountain roads to the Inn at Crestwood, our home away from home for the weekend. This Inn was splendid! Just what we were looking for in the mountains. The Crestwood Inn is nestled at the top of a mountian in Boone and makes you fell as if you are miles away from civilization. We were lucky to book a suite with a seperate living room area and fireplace and fantastic mountain views! The boys just thought this was the best place ever! While the boys were in the whirlpool tub (relaxing after their ski day!), Doug went out and got pizzas for dinner. What could be better than curling up in front of the fire with incredible mountain views out your window, having pizza, and playing board games with your children!

The next morning we headed to the town of Beech Mountain! Although I am a true beach girl, I could easily fall in love with Beech Mountain. It is the cutest little "ski lodge town." We found the favorite "locals spot" where you can enjoy sledding all day long! Just bring your own sled and enjoy a giant family sledding area! And right across the street was another "more intense" sledding area for kids 12 and under. Cameron enjoyed this about 807 times! Just behind these areas is the ski lodge and the actual ski resort. GREAT place for families!

Ski Beech has several ski slopes from beginner to advanced, a real outdoor ice skating rink (the boys favorite spot!), several little eating places, a great "old fashioned" ski lodge feeling, and a huge outdoor fire pit. Very cozy!

I have to say, there is a series of photos like these of the boys on the outdoor ice skating rink and they are some of my favorites! It is not often that I see the older boys like this.... holding hands and skating together!

Cameron took this photo of me and Doug as we were leaving Ski Beech. We are at the fire pit area warming up! He, again, did a great job with his camera skills!

We are already planning our next ski weekend! Probably back to the NC mountains again!
